I couldn’t resist the buzz in the net yesterday and today from the New Your Times to other NY publications about these Red Hook, Brooklyn bees that mysteriously turn themselves red and started to produce a red color honey. The strange occurrence generated speculation that maybe this was caused by some unknown disease. I was intrigued and fascinated by the possibility that maybe we were dealing with some new type of bees! It turned out that these Brooklyn bees decided to make a stop somewhere where Red Dye No. 40 – a common food coloring – is used, most likely at Dell’s Maraschino Cherries Company over on Dikeman Street in Red Hook… So if you are disappointed these bees aren’t really red after all, here is a piece of good news! 🙂
Our propolis producing bees in Brazil, although not red in color, what they do is truly amazingly RED!
